Mai and the Blackbird with Mid Wales Music Trust

Our work with the Mid Wales Music Trust and Sinfonia Cymru is inspired by the Breton folk tale Mai & the Blackbird -
Click on the pdf to read the story

The   story offers a creative springboard to exploring cultural connections between Wales and Brittany, as well as links to many areas of the curriculum including geography, history, storytelling, oracy, creative writing, music (creating, performing and listening) and art.

We hope you enjoy  finding out about our adventure with the amazing artists on this web page. Our year 2, 3 and Year 4 learners have LOVED taking part and are very grateful for the creative opportunities the project has offered them. It was a delight watching their faces and listening to them talking about the musicians and performing the story with them.

With huge thanks to the wonderful musicians,  especially  Chloe on harp, Epsie on flute and Lowri on viola, for making this project with our children happen! We hope we get to experience the magic of working with you all next year too!

We created natural paint brushes and painted art work inspired by the story.

......and then our lucky pupils got to have a go themselves and were taught how to play the violin and percussion instruments. They were also treated to the most amazing performances from Delia and Berri, Expressive Arts at its best!
